This Tuesday, the NASA decided to showcase a stunning capture of this phenomenon as the ‘Astronomical Photo of the Day‘. The image was taken by Kevin Saragozza in Siracusa, located in Sicily, Italy, and you can see the large moon behind a historic castle and a city lighthouse.
The term “Supermoon” refers to when the moon reaches ‘Perigee,’ meaning it’s at its closest point to Earth, and it’s in its full phase at the same time, making it appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.
The first ‘Supermoon’ of 2023 occurred on July 3rd, the second and third ones were on the first and last day of August, and because it’s the second Full Moon in a single month, it’s called a ‘Blue Moon,’ with no relation to its color. The fourth ‘Supermoon’ will occur later this September, on the 29th.
