An elderly woman from Brazil lost over $25,000 while chatting with a fake profile of businessman Elon Musk, according to the Brazilian Civil Police.
In the screenshots released by the authorities, it is clear that the elderly woman had saved the scammer’s profile under the name “My Love Musk“. In the conversations, “Elon” constantly expressed his love for the woman, saying things like, “Meeting you was the highlight of my life.”
“Every morning of my life gives me a new reason to love and appreciate you for what you’ve given me. Without you, my life is nothing but an ocean of dust,” the scammer says in one of the messages.
The case came to light after the woman’s 69-year-old son reported the matter to the police. According to Detective José Sena, she even took out loans for the scammer, who, while impersonating Elon Musk, used the excuse that he would send expensive gifts if he received money from her.
“After gaining the victim’s trust, this alleged businessman began making requests to the victim, promising to send gifts such as flowers, jewelry, gifts that never arrived. He even asked for money to fuel his supposed aircraft,” explained the detective.
The suspect has not yet been identified, but they have already tracked down the bank accounts to which the victim made the transfers. Detective Sena also mentioned that he believes this is part of a well-organized criminal group that has made other victims in the country.
