Charlie Davies-Carr, the baby from the Charlie Bit My Finger video, opened up about the reality of fame nearly two decades after the viral clip.

The 55-second clip, posted in 2007 by Howard Davies-Carr, was one of YouTube’s most famous viral videos at the time, showing baby Charlie biting his brother Harry‘s finger.

Now 18, Charlie shared that although he doesn’t remember the moment, it has always been a part of his life. “[The video] has always been there,” he said in an interview with BBC to celebrate YouTube’s 20th anniversary.

However, the teenager seems grateful that he isn’t recognized for the clip and usually doesn’t bring it up with people. Although the video helped the family financially, he admitted it was “annoying” when people mentioned it, especially during his school years.

The 18-year-old also added that it’s difficult for him to keep his viral past completely secret since friends and family often bring up the clip. “It slips out every once in a while,” Charlie added.

The original video garnered nearly 900 million views but was removed from YouTube in May 2021 after being sold as an NFT for $760 million by 3F Music, a company that owns the copyrights of other famous memes via NFTs. The viral clip only returned to the platform in January 2024.
