British TikTokers have posted videos claiming that in the United Kingdom, a “tea time alarm” goes off every afternoon, and it seems that some Americans are convinced that this is true.
British TikTokers used all their irony and creativity to joke about a tradition known to the rest of the world and made posts claiming that in the UK, a “tea time alarm” goes off every afternoon.
According to the posts, the alarm rings every day, and everyone must stop what they are doing to have a cup of tea, or they could be fined. In some videos, a siren can even be heard as some people rush home and grab a mug to avoid getting into trouble with the government.
But the prank seems to have left many Americans convinced that the alarm is real, and some turned to social media to ask if the information was true. On TikTok, one user was very honest about expressing their doubts.
“I need to know the truth, I’m probably going to look like the biggest idiot… what’s the deal with the tea time alarms? Is this a big joke?”, asked simplymaryuk to the camera.
Well, if you thought the Brits were being ironic in their videos about the alarm, you can’t imagine how they are when it comes to comments. The TikToker asked, and they certainly answered.
“Anyone who says it’s a joke needs to have a conversation with themselves, because it’s not funny to deceive visitors into getting fined like this,” said one.
“I’m taking a tea awareness course because I’ve always missed the alarms,” responded another.
“Why would we make something like this up? We Brits take tea very seriously!” said a third.
So, if so many responses confirming it so strongly still left someone in doubt, it’s because the Brits know how to pull pranks. No, the tea alarm doesn’t exist, and there’s no specific time for tea; it’s anytime, at least for the English.
