OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is planning to launch its own social network with the integrated AI chatbot to compete with X (formerly Twitter).

The project has not yet been officially confirmed by the company, but sources cited by the website The Verge claim that OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, is already consulting with people to receive feedback on the future social network.

This comes amid growing rivalry between Altman and X’s owner, Elon Musk. In February, Musk made an offer to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion, to which Altman responded: “No, thanks. But we’ll buy Twitter for $9.7 billion if you want.”

In addition to directly competing with X, OpenAI’s future social network would also enter competition with Meta, which has also launched Threads as a way to compete with Musk’s social network.

With the social network, OpenAI could gather real-time data to train its AI models, just as Musk is doing with Grok and Zuckerberg is doing with Llama.
