Curious images captured by Space Station camera

A camera installed on the International Space Station recently captured curious images of unusual symbols appearing in a remote desert region of the planet.

“This has definitely piqued our curiosity,” said Charles Black, founder of Sen, the company responsible for live broadcasts of Earth and space, in an interview with Mashable.

Sen operates three cameras positioned on the station, one of which is aimed directly at Earth, covering an area of about 250 by 150 kilometers. This camera streams videos in ultra-high definition (4K), providing an impressive view of the Earth’s surface. It was this very lens that captured what seemed to be a giant “enigmatic message etched in the sand,” as described by the company.

The visible patterns, although initially appearing to be mysterious symbols, are in fact the result of agricultural practices that stand out vividly against the arid desert landscape of Tunisia, Black clarified.

Phenomena like this — whether natural or human-made — are frequently revealed by these cameras as the station orbits Earth at 27,000 kilometers per hour, at an altitude of approximately 400 kilometers.

It’s worth noting that, on occasion, Sen chooses to keep the exact details of what its cameras capture confidential.
