São Gabriel da Cachoeira, a city in Amazonas, Brazil, has reinstated the use of masks in indoor spaces after an increase in Covid-19 cases.
The decree was issued by the city hall last Friday (25) after the municipality registered 400 positive cases in April alone. In December of last year, there were only 14 confirmed cases.
The city has also seen an increase in demand for testing, according to Agência Brasil. Even negative results show “that other respiratory viruses are circulating in the city, posing a risk to public health.”
In addition to 897 suspected cases this month, a suspected death related to the disease is also under investigation. If the numbers continue to rise, the city hall stated that it would not rule out implementing additional containment measures.
