At a press conference, Magda Victoria Acosta, president of the National Gender Commission of the Colombian Judiciary, explained that the suspect, disguised as a delivery person, shot her when she opened her front door.
“She was a young and entrepreneurial woman with her whole life ahead of her, but those dreams were cut short — just like the dreams of many women in this country,” Acosta said.
According to Acosta, Estupiñan had been a victim of domestic violence and was about to receive financial compensation. Authorities are currently investigating the murder.

On social media, many compared the case to the murder of a 23-year-old Mexican influencer last week. A man entered the beauty salon where Valeria Marquez worked and shot her twice while she was livestreaming.
Mexican authorities stated they are investigating Marquez’s death as a suspected femicide. Although Acosta did not confirm whether Estupiñan’s death is being treated as a femicide, her murder highlights the alarming rise in violence against women in Latin America.
