On Friday, May 30, a 30-year-old Chinese tourist jumped over a safety railing and fell onto two soldiers from the Terracotta Army exhibition in Xi’an, China.
Authorities are investigating the case. A preliminary report said the tourist suffers from a mental illness that may have caused him to leap onto the display.

Reports indicate that he jumped into a 5.5-meter-deep pit and pushed and pulled the over-2,000-year-old clay sculptures. The statues were “damaged to varying degrees,” according to a statement.

The video shows the tourist lying on the ground with his hand on his head, apparently in pain from the fall. The post has already garnered more than 3.5 million views.
China’s Terracotta Warrior statues were originally built around 209 BC. The 8,000 sculptures were discovered in the 1970s when farmers were digging a well.
The site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
