In a post on GoFundMe, the owners of Zeus, a beautiful German Shepherd, shared the frightening experience and asked for support to help fund his treatment.
“The vet told us the gator barely missed Zeus’s jugular — it looked like his entire head was inside the gator’s mouth. The fact that he survived is truly a miracle,” the post states.

According to the family, who live in Florida, USA, Zeus was quietly inside the house when he heard a noise in the backyard and ran out to investigate. That’s when a giant alligator suddenly crossed the fence, grabbed the dog, and dragged him into the water.

His owners rushed outside with flashlights and, to everyone’s surprise, Zeus was swimming back — severely injured but fighting with all his strength to survive.

According to the post, he was immediately taken to a veterinary hospital. The Alkhatib family said Zeus suffered a fractured jaw and multiple lacerations around his neck. He received treatment but still requires extensive care for a full recovery.
“Despite everything, Zeus continues to be a warrior,” the family wrote in a recent update on GoFundMe. “He’s receiving lots of love, affection, and care.”
