The Chinese company has until June 19 to decide whether TikTok will be sold to an American company in order to keep operating in the US. Otherwise, the app will be banned in the country.
In a statement released last Monday (the 9th), TikTok announced that it will open the new office in Barbican, London, next year and that the project will include 500 new job openings.
The new positions will increase TikTok’s workforce in the UK to 3,000 employees, according to the company. In addition to its current headquarters in Farringdon, TikTok’s total real estate investments in the UK will amount to around $190 million.
The company also stated that its platform has contributed to the UK economy, with around 1.5 million businesses operating on TikTok and generating 32,000 jobs.
TikTok further said that it “carefully evaluates where it chooses to invest and expand its operations” and that it has a “deep commitment to the United Kingdom.”
