Buldrini had traveled from Mozambique to Istanbul on Friday (the 13th) with her husband, artist Elgar Miles, to undergo a series of cosmetic procedures in the country known as the “Mecca of plastic surgery.”

The influencer, who had over 790,000 followers on Instagram, had signed up to get breast implants, liposuction, and a rhinoplasty in exchange for promoting Tusa Hospital on her social media, according to the Brazilian news outlet O Tempo.

“She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was her dream,” Buldrini’s husband told the outlet.

The couple, who married last month, asked to reschedule the surgery originally planned for Wednesday to allow an extra day for recovery.

But according to Miles, the surgeon moved the operation to Sunday. He stated that the surgery happened just hours after the couple attended a party with the doctor, during which Buldrini consumed alcohol.

“We went to the clinic on Sunday just to check out the place, but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure even though Ana wasn’t prepared,” Miles said.

He reported that his wife was being persuaded to go through with the surgery just hours after the party. “The doctor assured me there was no problem and that everything would be fine,” Miles told Brazilian news outlet g1.

Buldrini underwent surgery and exited the operating room at 11 p.m. on Sunday. Miles said he received a photo of his wife recovering and was told she was still under anesthesia.

“They sent me to the room, and the assistants were acting strangely. I waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes,” said Miles. However, a few hours later, he was informed that she had died.

The doctors were detained at the clinic but were later released by the police. Tusa Hospital denied any medical negligence and stated that their team had attempted to resuscitate Buldrini after the surgery.

“Despite all efforts by our anesthesiology team, the patient could not be revived,” they said in a statement obtained by Turkish media outlet Turkiye Today. The hospital also assured that it is cooperating with authorities.

“A judicial investigation has been initiated. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy,” said Abdullah Emre Güner, Istanbul’s Provincial Health Director, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
