Trump Mobile, the smartphone brand launched by U.S. President Donald Trump, caused a stir online after its official announcement last week.

Despite the controversial launch of the T1, the president’s sons claimed the “made in America” phone was designed so that “real Americans” could enjoy it.

Apparently, that’s not entirely true. According to The Verge, it seems the administrators are quietly removing claims that the phone was produced in the U.S. from the website.

While earlier this week the T1 was described as “proudly made in America,” by June 25 the page simply stated that the phone had a “design with American pride.”

Additionally, the previous claim that the T1 is “proudly made here in the U.S.” was replaced by the much more ambiguous statement that it “comes to life here in the U.S.,” noting that there are “American hands behind every device.”

According to Mashable, these changes also affected the homepage of Trump Mobile. Previously, a banner encouraged people to pre-order the T1 phone “MADE IN THE USA” and stated it would be available starting in September.

While the homepage still encourages users to pre-order a T1, it no longer claims the device is made in the U.S. In addition, the previously stated delivery date has also been completely removed.

Despite the website changes, a spokesperson for Trump Mobile maintained the company’s position that the phone is in fact produced in the United States. “T1 phones are proudly made in the United States,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Ars Technica.

He also discreetly addressed the disappearance of the previously mentioned delivery date. “Speculation to the contrary is simply inaccurate. We are excited to launch the phones later this year.”

It wouldn’t be surprising if Trump Mobile backtracked on the promise of smartphones 100% made in the U.S. According to analysts, for that to be possible, a T1 would need to cost $3,000 instead of the current $499.
