Last month, Amazon announced that it would start storing Alexa users’ conversation data and recordings in the company’s cloud.

The change completely shocked “Alexa owners” and has already taken effect in the United States last Friday (28), according to a report from the website The Conversation.

After the update, it will no longer be possible to enable the “Do not send voice recordings” option, which was previously available in Alexa settings and allowed users to process data locally.

The “Do not save recordings” option can be selected, but it affects device personalization, as it also disables the Voice ID feature. Therefore, the user must decide whether they prefer personalization or privacy.

Technology experts suggest that this change aims to boost Amazon’s new subscription feature, Alexa+, which was recently launched as a way to recover losses from the Echo product line.
