Apple’s AI feature, Apple Intelligence, falsely claimed that BBC News reported Luigi Mangione shot himself.

BBC News accused Apple’s AI feature, Apple Intelligence, of drafting and sending a false notification in the name of the outlet, claiming that Luigi Mangione shot himself.

Luigi Mangione was arrested for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The false headline stated that Luigi shot himself.

“Luigi Mangione shoots himself; Syrian mother hopes Assad will pay the price; South Korean police search Yoon Suk Yeol’s office,” read the false notification, which was captured in a screenshot.

Only the part related to Luigi is false. BBC News filed a complaint with Apple about the incident, but the company has not yet commented.

Apple Intelligence was introduced on iPhones and other Apple devices in early 2024.
