The case, titled “Walter Peters v. Apple Inc.,” was initiated in 2019 in the California Superior Court and revolved around the option for developers to disable sharing subscriptions and purchases with other family members, which users claimed was unclear and considered a distortion of the terms. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Apple chose to settle to avoid additional costs associated with the ongoing litigation.

The money will be allocated to all parties involved in the lawsuit, including attorneys. The settlement will include users who participated in Family Sharing between June 2015 and January 2019 in the United States, receiving between $10 and $50, depending on various criteria.
