It all started in 2002 when his first wife was murdered during a robbery attempt; the sudden and violent tragedy shook Shimabokuro’s life, and he had to face severe depression.

In an interview with GQ Brasil, he shared how physical activity played a crucial role in his recovery: “I thought I would rather have been in her place. But I had two children to take care of, I had to be strong. I started running, and I felt good when I was really tired, out of breath, at my limit, to the point of almost passing out.”

One day, he felt so bad that he realized he was using running as a form of punishment for what had happened, and that it was definitely not the best way to deal with the situation.

“I thought: ‘Why am I doing this to myself? If I’m here, I have to live well and not keep torturing myself.’ I decided I would take care of myself,” he said.

It was then that Shimabokuro started running moderately and began training to participate in street races. During one of these races, he met Aline, his current wife, who encouraged him to start strength training.

Today, he follows an intense training routine, takes care of his diet with the help of nutritionists, and shares his transformation with his followers. His posts receive numerous comments from shocked internet users.

“Wow, wow, wow, I can’t believe it, incredible! What’s the secret? Is it possible to start at 54?”, asked one; “My GOD! He can’t even be considered elderly, he’s younger than many around 35”, said another.
