Beijing will host the 2025 Humanoid Robot World Games from August 15 to 17, city officials announced last Wednesday (7).
The event, which will be the world’s first dedicated exclusively to robots, marks a new milestone in integrating robotics into real-world environments and will take place at the National Stadium and the National Speed Skating Oval.
According to a report by China Daily, organizers stated that the games will feature 19 events across three main categories, including athletic competitions, performance demonstrations, and scenario-based challenges.
The games are designed to test the agility, coordination, and practical skills of humanoid robots and will also include three additional events where non-humanoid robots will compete in basketball, table tennis, and badminton.
Jiang Guangzhi, director of Beijing’s Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said that to participate, each robot must be autonomous and self-powered without the use of any hazardous energy sources.
In addition, each team must provide its own internet connection for its competitors. “There are many challenges related to innovation in robotics technology, product upgrades, and applications,” said Jiang.
“It is essential to strengthen global exchanges and cooperation and to enhance interaction and collaboration among research, industry, and end users. That’s why we organized the global humanoid robot half marathon and will hold the 2025 Humanoid Robot World Games.”
The organizers’ ultimate goal is to showcase the latest advancements in robotics, promote broader applications in everyday life, and accelerate technological progress in fields such as artificial intelligence, mechanical engineering, and sensor design.
