In a recent interview, Bill Gates explained that his children will not inherit his enormous empire or his billion-dollar fortune when he dies.
During an appearance on the Figuring Out With Raj Shamani podcast, the Microsoft co-founder discussed raising his children and revealed that they will inherit only a small fraction of his estimated $107 billion net worth.
The topic came up after he was asked if he believes parents should save money to give to their children or if they should use it for something else.
“In my case, my children had great upbringing and education, but less than one percent of the total wealth because I decided it wouldn’t be a favor to them.”

“It’s not a dynasty, I’m not asking them to run Microsoft. I want to give them a chance to have their own earnings and success,” Gates explained.
“So, I think explaining early on your philosophy: that you are going to treat them all equally and give them amazing opportunities, but the main calling for these resources is to give back to the neediest.”
The entrepreneur, who is the founder of the Gates Foundation, explained that much of his fortune will go to charity.
“I’ve seen cases where children actually tell their parents to be more philanthropic. I think the younger generation is sometimes really pushing back against this idea that wealth is just passed on,” he concluded.
