Bridgestone appears to be looking to expand its operations beyond planet Earth after revealing a tire concept for future lunar explorations.

The second-generation lunar rover tires were developed using steel, as rubber would not perform well on the Moon’s surface due to the satellite’s extreme temperatures.

So, Bridgestone’s solution was to create a metal tire with an external “tread” and flexible support structures that essentially function as a wheel.

The concept is very similar to the one presented by the brand in 2024 but differs significantly from the first-generation tire unveiled by Bridgestone years earlier.

Bridgestone will showcase its latest space tire at the 40th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, taking place from April 7 to 10. The company will be present as part of the Japan Space Industry exhibit.
