The Australian company SYPAQ Systems announced that its cardboard drone, Corvo PPDS, will be used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the war against Russia, which began over a year ago.

This ultra-low-cost aircraft was designed to be disposable and easily assembled and put into operation. With a range of 120 kilometers, it was initially created for delivering supplies in remote areas, though it can also be adapted for surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

Designed to be operated by remote control, the Corvo PPDS can also fly as an autonomous aircraft, navigating solely by GPS. The cardboard drones were delivered to Ukraine through a donation from the Australian Department of Defence, which did not disclose the number of aircraft that will be provided.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine has made extensive use of drones for both reconnaissance and combat roles, as a low-cost — and efficient — solution to bolster the capabilities of the country’s limited combat aviation.
