The advanced image generation tool is the result of a “natively multimodal model capable of producing precise, accurate, and photorealistic results,” according to OpenAI.

Quickly, social media was flooded with images created using the AI feature. “Today is a great day for the internet,” said a user on X (formerly Twitter) after recreating famous memes in the style of Hayao Miyazaki, co-creator of the studio.

“In the coming days, people are going to animate every iconic photo in history,” posted another user, along with a portrait of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in the style of Studio Ghibli.

Even OpenAI CEO Sam Altman saw all the Studio Ghibli content generated by his AI tool and joined the fun by changing his avatar on X to a version of himself in the Japanese animation style.

How to Use the ChatGPT Image Generation Tool?

Only ChatGPT premium subscribers (who pay $20 a month) can upload images into the system and submit their request for the chatbot to transform the images “in the style of Studio Ghibli.”

And it seems that it will take some time before this tool becomes available to free users. “Images in ChatGPT are wayyyy more popular than we expected (and we had pretty high expectations). Unfortunately, the rollout to our free tier is going to be delayed for a while,” posted Altman.
