The Apple Watch was launched in 2015, but the company had already been working on the device long before. Now, thanks to collector Giulio Zompetti, we can see how Apple’s smartwatch could have been.

The images, released by the technology website 9to5Mac, showcase the device dating back to the year 2013. According to Zompetti, the device runs a version of SwitchBoard (an internal Apple launcher for testing hardware features) based on an iOS 8 version made for the iPod touch.

In its construction, the device features stainless steel on the back (different from the released model, which is ceramic) and three horizontally aligned heart rate sensors.

Moreover, according to Zompetti, the prototype’s charger is also different from the final version. Although it resembles the current charger, the prototype charger is not compatible with any other model of the Apple Watch.
