Cupboo, an intelligent robot dog, has been launched by the Chinese company Hangzhou Genmoor Technology to help address the socialization needs of children and teenagers.
According to AFP, the robotic companion is powered by artificial intelligence, making it capable of addressing the social needs of young people. It costs up to $269, and since May of last year, over 1,000 units have been sold.
“I feel like I now have someone to share happy moments with,” explained Zhang Yachun, 19 years old, who also told AFP that she suffers from anxiety and has difficulty making friends.
Yachun named her robot dog Aluo and takes it everywhere while strolling through shopping malls in Beijing. “[It] makes you feel like you’re someone important.”
The Cupboo manufacturer described its mission as wanting to be “a group that lights up the world and brings warmth and comfort to all living human hearts.”
“May each of our little robotic friends bring joy and comfort so that every heart may be healed,” said Hangzhou Genmoor Technology.
