New confidential CIA documents reveal that secret research was conducted on a possible alien invasion that took place between the 1950s and 1960s.
Shared by the Disclosure Party group, which focuses on UFO defense, the documents reveal a series of reports on sightings during the 50s and 60s, which led to a partnership between the US and Australian governments to assess them.

The 58-page document, which was shared by the Australian National Archives, states that the project took place from 1957 to 1971 and assessed the probability of an alien invasion during that period.
“To prepare the public for [the possibility of contact], 41 previously classified reports were released for publication between August 1952 and February 1953,” the document states.
However, physicist Howard P. Robertson concluded that there was “no evidence of a direct threat to national security in the observed objects.” But the documents reveal that, even after the cancellation of Project Blue Book, intelligence agents continued to investigate the case.

The document goes on to state that former CIA Director, Admiral Hillenkoetter, Major D. Fournet, and others “publicly declared that the US government knew UFOs were extraterrestrial but was hiding the fact from the public.”
Restrictions on how individuals could discuss UFOs were later reinforced, with active officials threatened with “up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000” if they spoke openly about the matter.
