With over 45 countries in their passport, Americans decide to live permanently on cruise ships

Monica Brzoska and her husband Jorell decided to take a radical step: they sold almost everything they owned to live aboard cruise ships. The reason? For them, the numbers just added up.

After a seven-day trip through the Caribbean in 2023, the idea hit them: “What if we didn’t go back?” Monica told The Sun. The proposal was simple — book consecutive cruises and turn the sea into their home.

“Accommodation, meals, and entertainment would be included. We would just need some money for extra expenses,” she explained. As frequent Carnival customers, they gained access to special offers. Taking advantage of the prices for the cheapest cabins and using money saved during the pandemic, they managed to secure eight months of travel for about $9,875 — some segments paid upfront, others with installment payments.

When they officially boarded in March 2023, the couple had already left their jobs and gotten rid of most of their belongings. Monica describes the feeling as “liberating,” even though they didn’t know how long they could sustain the new lifestyle.

“In our old life, we had occasional moments that felt magical,” she recalls. “Now, my entire life feels like one of those moments — it’s like living in a constant dream.”
