A rescue team captured the intense rescue of a horse that had fallen into a hole in a frozen lake in New York.

The footage, taken from police body cameras, shows the efforts to rescue Sly, a 600-kilogram horse, from the hole. The incident occurred in Saratoga Springs, New York (USA), last Monday (24).

In the video, you can hear the team shouting “one, two, three, pull!” while Sly moves its front legs. “Come on, buddy. We’ve got you,” says one of the rescuers.

To AP, Ali Ernst, Sly’s owner, said that she noticed her horses playing near the lake when she came back from work but didn’t worry since they often do that.

However, she was startled when she turned around and saw one of the horses had fallen into a hole in the frozen lake. She tried to help it but had to ask for assistance to get it out.

Ernst had difficulty keeping Sly’s head above the water. That’s when officer Kyle Clinton arrived, the first rescuer on the scene.

Two other officers, along with neighbors and family members, also joined in to rescue Sly. Fortunately, they managed to come together to save him, and Sly was taken to the equine hospital Rood & Riddle.

Initially, Sly was in a state of hypothermia due to the freezing water temperatures. But by Wednesday (26), he was already recovered and able to return home. Ernst emphasized that, after the scare, playing near the lake is no longer allowed.
