During CES 2025, Elon Musk, owner of Neuralink, revealed that he plans to have 30 patients with brain chips implanted this year.

The entrepreneur mentioned that the company has already performed the third implantation of a neural chip in humans and revealed that all three devices are “working well.” Additionally, he stated that the recently installed implants have undergone updates to their battery, broadband, and electrodes.

In a conversation with Mark Penn, CEO of Stagwell, Musk also admitted that he expects 30 more patients to receive brain chips from Neuralink this year. One of the main goals of the chip is to work on the “brain-body connection” for people who are tetraplegic or paraplegic.

Although it is not yet capable of restoring physical movement to these individuals, the chip aims to allow patients to control the computer mouse and mobile phone screen with their thoughts, through a connection to the cortex.

He also revealed that the company is in the testing phase of a new device that could potentially help blind patients regain their vision. The Blindsight would interact with the cortex and the optic nerve to deliver the necessary stimuli and reverse possible damage.
