After being elected leader of the Catholic Church last week, Pope Leo XIV created his official account on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday (14).
“Peace be with all of you! This is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I hope this greeting of peace may resonate in your hearts, in your families, and among all peoples, wherever you may be, in every nation and throughout the world,” the pope wrote in his first post.

In his second post, Pope Leo XIV quoted Pope Leo XIII, who was known for addressing the challenges of technological progress at the end of the 19th century.
In a recent statement, he said that his name was chosen because his papacy will face similar challenges, such as the rise of artificial intelligence and other technologies.
“More than a century ago, Pope Leo XIII noted that ‘the preservation of Eastern rites is more important than one might think.’ Let us heed the call to safeguard and promote the Christian East, especially in the diaspora.”

The pope, who was born in the United States, is also believed by many internet users to have made a subtle critique of U.S. President Donald Trump during a reflection on global violence.
“War is never inevitable. Weapons can and must be silenced, for they never solve problems—they only worsen them,” Pope Leo stated.
“Those who sow peace will endure throughout history, not those who reap victims. Others are not enemies to be hated, but human beings to be engaged in dialogue.”
