Google has agreed to pay $28 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former employees in the United States.
A class-action lawsuit filed by 6,632 employees who worked at the California headquarters between February 15, 2018, and December 31, 2024, alleged that the tech giant favored white and Asian employees, which would violate the state’s Equal Pay Act.
While denying the allegations, Google accepted the settlement, according to a spokesperson for the big tech, who emphasized that the company does not treat employees differently and is committed to providing equal treatment for all.
The settlement was preliminarily approved last week by Judge Charles Adams of the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, California.
At the time, Adams called the agreement fair, reasonable, and “a good outcome for the class.” He scheduled a hearing for September, when the final approval of the settlement is expected to take place.
