Google announced on Tuesday (26) that it will discontinue its Podcasts segment in 2024. The platform’s programs will be migrated and incorporated into YouTube Music.

This move is part of a transition process for users to migrate to YouTube Music, a platform in which Google has been concentrating its investments to compete closely with Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other streaming services.
The primary goal is to expand, enhance, and make YouTube Music the primary destination for podcast listeners. Earlier this year, for example, the big tech company had already announced that the platform would offer support for podcasts worldwide by the end of 2023.
According to an official statement from Google and TechCrunch, the company will ensure that this transition process is as seamless as possible by providing migration tools and the option to download an OPML file of subscriptions if the user wishes to use a platform other than YouTube Music.
“We know that this transition will take time, but these efforts will allow us to build an incredible product and a single destination that rewards creators and artists and provides fans with the best podcast experience,” emphasized Google in a statement.
