Google has started experiments involving the creation of AI-generated podcast hosts to offer audio results for searches on the site.
Using the latest models of its AI tool, Gemini, users would receive an option to listen to their search results in audio, called Audio Overviews.
In this case, the AI-generated podcast would be created for results a bit more complex than a simple “what’s the weather today?”.
So, if you searched “what was the Big Bang?”, you would have the option to consolidate the search results into a roughly 40-second “podcast,” according to Google.
When implemented, the tool would automatically appear at the top of the results page with a button saying “generate audio description of the overview.”
The AI will use information from the top results on the page (those considered most relevant) and create an audio summary with two voices, as if it were the host and guest of a podcast.
Users will be able to adjust the playback speed, and the tool will cite the websites from which the information mentioned in the audio is extracted.
For now, Audio Overviews are only available as an optional experiment through Google Labs. There is no forecast for when the tool will be available to the general public.
