In 2023, it was no different, and the company revealed what caught people’s attention this year. It’s worth noting that Google states that the rankings of searched terms are based on subjects that had the highest increase in search volume in 2023 compared to the previous year.

When it comes to news, the world stopped to gather information about the devastating war between Israel and Gaza, the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, and the Category 4 hurricanes Idalia and Hilary that struck the United States.

Additionally, the death of five people aboard the OceanGate Expeditions submarine, attempting to reach the wreckage of the Titanic but losing communication and imploding, also drew attention and was the second most searched term of 2023.

In the world of movies and series, it couldn’t be different, ‘Barbie‘ and ‘Oppenheimer‘ top the list. Greta Gerwig’s film about the famous doll and Christopher Nolan’s movie about the creator of the atomic bomb were released simultaneously in theaters, sparking the interest of many. ‘The Last of Us‘, the famous Naughty Dog game, received an excellent TV adaptation by HBO, starring Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, gaining the most attention in 2023.

The world also mourned the loss of iconic personalities, with Matthew Perry, the actor famous for portraying ‘Chandler’ on the Friends series, and the extraordinary Tina Turner, known as the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,’ leading the list. Check out some examples:
