Amid conflicts with India, the Pakistan government surprised by using its social media to post a video game clip as if it were a real military operation.
The clip was posted on the official Pakistan government profile on X (formerly Twitter) and shows gameplay footage from the game Arma 3. However, the government claimed that the video was a real military response to alleged Indian aggression.
The footage, showing a Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) hitting a target, was accompanied by statements from the Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, praising the Pakistan Armed Forces for their “timely and nerve-wracking response.”
The post was quickly ridiculed by internet users, many wondering how a government could post a game clip as if it were a real military action amid an actual war.
“This is literally footage from a video game. Shame on you,” said one user on X. “Pakistan, I didn’t know you were so chill, just playing Arma 3,” joked another. “Are India and Pakistan really fighting or just making videos?” asked a third.
The post remains online, and so far the Pakistan government has not issued any official clarification after the blunder. Fortunately, the post now includes a “community note” warning other users about the false news.
