AAA game delays seem to have become the norm in the gaming world, so it’s no surprise that the same has happened with GTA 6.

Since the release of the first trailer in December 2023, little has been said about the game. However, Take-Two confirmed in February that GTA 6 would be released later this year.

Something must have changed, as last Friday (May 2), Rockstar announced that GTA 6 will now be released at the end of May 2026. “We deeply regret that this delay has occurred compared to what was expected.”

“The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto have been truly rewarding for our entire team. We’d like to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game.”

“With every game we’ve released, our goal has always been to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar added.

Considering the scope of the game and the likely steep price tag, it may be wise to temper expectations and allow Rockstar the time they need to deliver a polished, bug-free title at launch. We don’t want another Cyberpunk 2077, do we?
