The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) website was offline last Wednesday (19) in the afternoon. Azael, a hacker who has already claimed responsibility for other attacks on public websites in Brazil, took responsibility for the attack.
The hacker contacted tech media outlets minutes before the attack took place. The site stated that they had contacted the institution to inform them.
After causing instability in the system, hacker Azael claimed responsibility for the attack. He also took credit for the system outages at the University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and Guarulhos Airport, which occurred last Saturday (15).
“GRU Airport, the concessionaire that operates São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos, stated that, on Saturday afternoon (15), a cyberattack on the company’s official website made the page unstable and offline for several hours. However, there was no impact on operations,” said the Guarulhos airport press office in a statement.
However, USP, which was affected on March 11, denied being the target of a hacker attack. At the time, they said that the university’s Information Technology Superintendency was already working to restore services.
According to information from the Veja website, this month alone, Azael also attacked the systems of the National Justice Council (CNJ), the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and Petrobras. He also reportedly attempted, unsuccessfully, to infiltrate the networks of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), according to the portal CISO Advisor.
