A 16-year-old girl from the United States was on the verge of death after being hospitalized with 1 liter of liquid in her lungs. The cause? E-cigarette addiction.
Isabella Troncao, from Las Vegas, developed a bacterial infection last year that started as a simple sore throat, but it quickly progressed into Lemierre’s syndrome, which occurs when a microbe spreads to vital blood vessels.
To make matters worse, she developed sepsis, which required her to stay in the hospital for a month. During that time, doctors drained 1 liter of fluid from her lungs.
Now, she is making a plea to young people to stop vaping. “I felt like it was a sign from God that I was supposed to be here on this Earth for a reason,” she said, according to a report from Daily Mail.
“It’s crazy to think that I could have lost it all in such a short period of time. I definitely feel like I was given a second chance at life.”
Her mother, Francesca, 44, said she didn’t know her daughter was using a vape and that she apparently started vaping to impress a boy.
“It’s hard because I blame myself too. We all do stupid things, but they are marketing these vapes with fruity flavors and flashy colors… they’re worse than cigarettes.”
