The influencer explained that she wanted a guestbook in audio format, where friends and family could leave messages for her and her wife. The idea was to later compile the audio into a vinyl record or something similar.
However, since the project was too expensive — between $600 and $700 — they decided to install a sound-sensitive recorder in an old phone bought at a thrift store.
To her surprise, the device recorded conversations that many guests probably didn’t want made public.
One week after the wedding, Yaya found that the recorder had captured over two hours of audio, including messages for the audio guestbook, side conversations, and unexpected moments from the party.

The influencer and her wife said that the wedding caused some controversy in their small town, especially because they had uninvited people who didn’t support their union.
She censored the names of the guests who openly criticized the celebration. In one of the recordings, two cousins can be heard talking about others who weren’t invited.
“How tacky and disrespectful can you be?”, said one of the relatives, apparently referring to Yaya and her wife. The influencer’s followers came to her defense and criticized the guests.
