He was searching for snakes while exploring Shired Island in Dixie County when he encountered the rattlesnake, which attacked his leg fiercely.
“Well, I’m screwed. Right, this is a fantastic eastern diamondback rattlesnake that just bit me on the leg while I was peeling bark,” he commented.
“My reaction was something like ‘damn, this is really serious.’ I thought I might lose my leg. It was pretty scary because my whole body went numb, from head to toe,” the influencer told WCJB.
Humplett spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve in the ICU, in life-threatening condition. He received 88 vials of antivenom.
The influencer set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses and support his family.
Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes are the longest and heaviest venomous snakes in North America, with lengths ranging from 1 to 2 meters, according to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute.
