Unauthorized use of Arielle Lorre’s image reignites debate on deepfakes and digital consent

The advancement of artificial intelligence raises troubling questions, especially regarding the unauthorized use of real people’s images. Beauty influencer Arielle Lorre, 39, was shocked to discover that her image had been used without her consent in an AI-generated video promoting a cosmetics brand.

Known on social media for sharing her skincare routine, which she says helped her quit Botox and maintain a youthful appearance, Lorre saw her digital likeness appear in an ad circulating on TikTok. In the video, the “influencer” recommends a product from the brand Skaind Official, claiming impressive results — something Lorre insists she never did.

“This can happen to anyone, and it’s going to get much worse,” she warned in a response video. She shared clips comparing the deepfake with her original videos, showing how the company used manipulated excerpts from a supposed podcast that never existed.

The brand, which specializes in vegan and natural products, claimed that a third-party agency was responsible for creating the content and that the faces used were acquired from an AI avatar platform supposedly free of copyright. However, Lorre points out that real footage from her videos was also used.

Another man who appears in the fake video also spoke out, saying he never took part in the recording and that his image had been manipulated. “To everyone, I’m the guy in the video — but it’s not me. I’ve never met Arielle,” he said.

Lorre says she sent a formal cease-and-desist notice to the brand, but claims they blocked her. In a statement, Skaind said they removed the content as soon as they were alerted and terminated their contract with the responsible agency.
