User-created filters are set to disappear from Instagram this Tuesday (14). This comes after an announcement from Meta, which is ending Spark, its augmented reality service.

The announcement was made in August last year, when Meta revealed it would shut down the Spark platform, which allowed anyone to create AR filters to be used in Instagram and Facebook cameras.

At the time, they said the change would take effect in January 2025. So, starting tomorrow, only filters created by the platform itself will remain available, while those created by third parties will disappear completely.

“After careful consideration, it was decided that Meta will prioritize investments in other areas of the company. As a result, we will no longer be able to support the Meta Spark platform in the long term,” they said on a support page.
