Sean Bates, an Oregon resident, found the device still functioning without damage in airplane mode and with half the battery, by the side of the road. Sean reported on his official X, formerly known as Twitter, that he notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) about the discovery, emphasizing that the fall did not damage the phone.

The iPhone was sucked out of the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9, which experienced a sudden depressurization after losing part of the door. The smartphone found by Bates was located even before the discovery of the aircraft door itself.

According to the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) social media, part of the door was found and sent to an organization laboratory in Washington, DC, for further examination. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries in the accident, which is under investigation.
