In an unprecedented partnership with Apple Music, the streaming music service of the iPhone manufacturer, King Charles III has launched his own personalized playlist.

The King’s Music Room was recorded in the King’s office inside Buckingham Palace and starts with an introduction from Charles telling how much music means to him.

“I know this is also the case for many others. [Music] has this remarkable ability to bring back happy memories flowing from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to faraway places,” he says.

“But perhaps above all, it can lift our spirits so high, and even more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy,” the King adds. The playlist then takes us on an impressive journey through various musical styles, including reggae and afrobeat.

“A musical journey reflecting His Majesty’s personal tastes, the show is shaped by his extraordinary experiences around the world,” says the playlist synopsis, which features artists like Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones.

“In the broadcast, which His Majesty recorded to mark this year’s Commonwealth Day, King Charles III also shares anecdotes about his encounters with some of the featured artists and reveals why the songs help form the soundtrack of his life.”

The playlist The King’s Music Room will debut on Apple Music 1 next Monday (10) for free. Users can also listen to it anytime on-demand if they have an Apple Music subscription.
