Two years after being hired by Elon Musk, Linda Yaccarino announced she is stepping down as CEO of X (formerly Twitter).
“When Elon Musk and I first talked about his vision for X, I knew it would be a unique opportunity to fulfill the extraordinary mission of this company,” Yaccarino wrote in a social media post.
“I am immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility to protect free speech, rebuild the company, and transform X into the app for everything.”
About an hour after her announcement, Musk responded to Yaccarino’s post with a short farewell: “Thank you for your contributions.”

Her departure was announced just hours after X was forced to deactivate Grok, its AI tool, due to a series of antisemitic comments made by the chatbot.
Despite conspiracy theories, a source told The New York Post that Yaccarino’s exit had been planned for more than a week and was not related to the collapse of Grok.
Matt Madrazo, Yaccarino’s son who works in ad sales at X, showed up to work at the company’s New York office on Wednesday (9), despite his mother’s dismissal.
Yaccarino, a former advertising executive at NBC Universal, joined X in 2023 to help restore the app’s relationship with advertisers after controversies involving Musk’s content moderation policies.
She succeeded in rebuilding ad revenue streams and said that 96% of X’s top advertisers resumed spending on the platform during her tenure.
