A girl born with a cleft lip adopts a puppy with the same condition, and the duo is winning the internet.
One day, Kynlee Rogers asked her mother if dogs are also born with cleft lips like her, and at that moment, Kimberly saw an opportunity to help her daughter cope with her condition and replied, “Of course.”
According to a report by the Washington Post, it was then that the girl’s parents came across the Cleft Rescue Unit, a nonprofit organization working to find families for dogs born with craniofacial defects.
Lindsay Weisman, who founded the NGO in 2023, explained the work done by Cleft Rescue Unit: “Our mission is to bring together the two different cleft communities: the human community and the canine community,” she said.
Weisman explains that puppies born with a cleft lip or palate cannot nurse properly, which can lead to the death of the animal. In these cases, tube feeding is necessary.
Cleft Rescue Unit works to raise awareness about the dangers these puppies face and always seeks a caregiver with the same craniofacial characteristic to adopt them.
