A man who received a $4,300 bank transfer by mistake decided to return the amount to the rightful owner.
Brazilian Wendler Silva, 30, was at work when he received a call from a bank informing him that R$ 23,300 (about $4,300) had been mistakenly transferred to his account.
“I was at work when I received a call from a bank manager […] informing me about this transaction. She said the customer’s phone number differed from mine only at the end, and he entered it without checking the name,” he explained.
“I didn’t understand it at first. I was immediately worried because I wasn’t expecting such an amount in my account, and I wondered how the person who made the transfer was doing.”
Despite the surprise, Wendler quickly decided to refund the money to its owner. “She asked me if I could make the refund. I just logged into the app and refunded it,” he said.
To avoid making transfers to the wrong person by mistake, experts recommend paying close attention when completing the transaction. Always verify that the person’s name and other bank details are correct before finalizing the transfer.
