A man who rose to fame by holding up signs with relatable protest messages has revealed how much he earns after leaving his traditional job.
Seth Phillips, 30, also known as “Dude With Sign,” has more than 7.5 million followers on his Instagram account.
His content involves standing on the streets of New York holding signs with statements that many people think but never say out loud. And it seems his messages are having an impact.
One of his most viral videos protested against coworkers who click “reply all” in office emails when it’s not necessary to copy everyone.
“It was an office joke going around that day. It was someone’s birthday, and everyone kept hitting ‘reply all’ to say happy birthday,” he told UNILAD.
“Then someone on our team said, ‘We should protest this — we could go out and hold a sign about it,’” Phillips continued. That’s when the idea for his now-famous Instagram page, Dude With Sign, was born.
As for his monthly earnings, he explained to UNILAD that while he preferred not to reveal the exact amount, it was enough to keep him “afloat.” That’s a positive, considering he quit his office job.
While he didn’t share how much he earns from social media, Phillips lives in a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment on Second Avenue that was listed at $5,750 per month, according to a January report from The New York Times.
Despite building a career as a content creator, he recently took part in a “digital detox” campaign by Heineken and spoke about the benefits of stepping away from social media.
“My attention span has kind of shrunk. I’ll admit I have a little bit of a scrolling problem. So yeah, I’m 100% behind a digital detox,” he said during the interview.
“I try to do it on my own as much as possible and in my own way try to avoid content overload. This campaign was an easy yes, even though my job relies on social media, likes, and engagement.”
