The encryption, which was optional in the app since 2016, is a great feature to enhance user security and privacy. Therefore, according to Meta, the decision to make it the default in the messenger is to ensure a more secure and controlled experience.

In addition, Mark Zuckerberg’s company introduced new features for Messenger, such as the ability to edit messages for up to 15 minutes after sending, temporary messages lasting 24 hours, and improvements to the interface.

There is also read receipt control, providing more autonomy and privacy to users, higher photo and video quality, and the option to play voice messages at different speeds. These new features are expected to roll out on the platform in the coming months. According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta:

“After years of rebuilding Messenger, we’ve updated the app with default end-to-end encryption for all personal calls and messages. Congratulations to the team for making this happen.”
