A report from NBC News revealed that Meta was forced to remove some chatbots created with its AI tool, including one of Hitler.
Meta originally launched its artificial intelligence tool to allow the creation of AI characters that would be available for conversation on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. However, many users violated the platform’s rules and created chatbots of Mohammed, Jesus Christ, and even Adolf Hitler.
According to Meta’s policies, users cannot create AI characters of real-life personalities, people who have died in the past 100 years, religious figures, or fictional characters protected by trademarks.
Although Meta claims to verify the characters created by users before allowing them on the platform, there were already AI versions of figures such as Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Harry Potter, Jack Sparrow, Justin Bieber, Elon Musk, and even Elsa from the movie Frozen on Instagram.
Additionally, at least three accounts were created for Hitler. In conversations with users, one of the AI profiles presented itself as an artist who expressed regret for the Holocaust. The bot also sent AI-generated images to discuss its “turbulent past in Nazi Germany.”
After the report from NBC News, Meta took the accounts down and said: “The AIs in question that violate our AI studio policies have already been removed, and we are continually improving our detection measures to prevent the creation and publication of AIs that violate our policies.”
“Users can also report AIs they suspect may be violating our rules, and we will take appropriate action,” the company of Mark Zuckerberg stated in its announcement.
