Officially known as IC 2118, the nebula, composed of gas and dust, has a diameter of about 50 light-years and is located near the star Rigel, one of the brightest in the constellation of Orion.
The blue color of the Witch Head Nebula is a result of the intense light emitted by the star Rigel, which, due to its influence, creates the peculiar shape of IC 2118.
